About Us
Namaste! We're a three-person team from the U.S. and Nepal. We're scientists, programmers, and outdoor specialists, with more than 70 years of experience between us.
Lisa
I'm a geologist by education (MS - Michigan Technological University, BA - Colby College) and a programmer by trade. I started out in the environmental sciences, investigating hazardous waste sites, monitoring remedial actions, and supporting expert witnesses. In the mid-2000s I left consulting and switched to research, modeling satellite data for the MISC Lab at the University of Maine and developing websites for the National Science Foundation. Eventually I migrated to ODYSEA LLC, a NASA partner, where I programmed comprehensive websites to explain NASA's ocean science missions. I've now been developing science-based websites for nearly 25 years.
Ted
Ted is also a professional geologist (MS - Lehigh University, BA - Colby College). After a stint in environmental consulting, he switched to teaching high school earth science, chemistry, honors research, and programming. He spent three years teaching physical science at Korea International School where we hiked the 97-mile Seoul Trail in both directions, trekked the Langtang Valley in Nepal, and toured Mongolia. Ted handles education and outreach.
Sameer
Sameer, a Himalayan trekking guide, is from Dolakha District, Nepal. Dolakha is located in the central regions of the country and is bordered by the People's Republic of China and the Nepali districts of Ramechap, Solokhumbu, and Sindhupalchok. The 2015 Gorkha earthquake destroyed his home and he now lives in Kathmandu, a dusty, chaotic city and one of the oldest continuously-inhabited places in the world. Besides guiding trekkers, Sameer sources lokta paper - handmade in the Himalayan foothills - for our Etsy shop. Sameer helps us with testing.
